Harvard Referencing — OUGD501

Harvard Referencing

(Refreshing my knowledge on referencing)

Citing and references:

The process that is used for referencing varies with what media that is being used. So a video uses a slightly different technique to what a book would. Here is the example of Harvard referencing from the OU website which was used for this post: http://www.open.ac.uk/libraryservices/documents/Harvard_citation_hlp.pdf

The citation in the body of the text will consist of (Author, Name. [Year] 'Page number') for books.

An example used within my own essay and includes an actor citing another source is as follows: (Brownie 2014 p.69-70 cited Fanthome, 2007, p. 258)

The bibliography will include all of the required information like city of publisher, publisher and editor.

So books need the following:

  • Author
  • Year
  • Title of Book
  • Publisher
  • Place of Publishing

Website citation requires only the following (Author, Name [Year])

However for websites the required bibliography reference information is:

  • Author/Organisation
  • Name of Website
  • URL
  • Date accessed
  • Date published/developed

These are the two main concerns for me. Other reference processes will be learned if necessary, however these are the two main referencing techniques that will be used within the essay.
