Visual Literacy: The Language of Design - Fred Bates - OUGD401

Lecture Notes:

I have chosen to only include notes from lectures that have benefited me in the essay writing process. Just to make things a little more organised and less off-topic.

I found this lecture was of most value to me as it touched on aspects of the main subject of my own essay, that being, visual literacy, visual communication, syntax, semantics and most importantly semiotics

This insightful discussion on these many aspects of design, gave me a good understanding of what they are all about and their differences. Especially when talking about the apple logo as an object, brand and that it can have many meanings but by changing the visual makeup of such a symbol can change a persons perception of the meaning.
